bad samaritan: casting call

by mg at 10:36 AM on February 08, 2005

Being an author on Bad Samaritan is probably the greatest job in the world. You get the adoration of millions (well, thousands). People fall all over themselves to buy you gifts. Women rip their tops off wherever you go. Animals hump your legs as soon as you walk in the room. It’s really great.

When I first started the site nearly 5 years ago it was just me for about six months. I quickly realized how selfish I was to keep all of the love to myself and over the next couple years I added more than 40 authors. But in the last year (maybe longer) I haven’t added a single new author. I’ve been keeping all the love for myself. How selfish of me!

What’s worse is that even with 40+ authors, I’ve been hogging the spotlight for myself. If you look at today’s front page 18 of the 20 posts were written by me (or Anna). How selfish of me!

I don’t like being selfish, so I pledge to work doubly hard to spread the wealth. If you want to join the Bad Samaritan staff, please let me know. I’d like to say I’ll only select the best of the best, but I’ll pretty much give anyone a shot. Why would I prevent anyone from sharing in the love heaped upon BadSam authors, even if they can’t write a coherent English sentence? I know I can’t and it hasn’t stoppeded me.

If you are interested, drop me a line and I’ll get back to you.

If you're a chick and sign, you get bonus points.

If you are a guy and sign up and then pretend to be a chick, you get negative points.

Oh! This also reminded me that I need to get busy posting more of the Bad Sam CD mixes.

Where's Linz run off to?

by Dennis at February 8, 2005 3:42 PM

Dennis... Are you kidding? See post "and i would have liked to have known you, but i was just a kid"

Maybe some of those mid term authors (especially myself) should get inspired and put up some posts...

by chuckwoolery at February 8, 2005 5:13 PM

I think Linz is writing for GoodSamaritan.com now, someplace where no one's feelings eer get hurt. Sounds boring to me.

I used to write posts all the time, trying goad authors into posting. There'd invariably be comments from 10 or so of the authors saying "I feel so guilty, I promise to post more." They never did, so I stopped. Then for a while whenever the old authors stopped posting I'd just add new ones. That hasn't seemed to work out to well either. Maybe I should try giving them a raise instead?

Hey Blank was that a dig at me? Even so, I agree female a definite +. Also, have you ever noticed that this place is whiter than a NASCAR event? Aren't there any brothers and sisters who'd like to give it a shot? Pay sucks but it's fun.

I've wondered about this for so long. I even had a post written solely in Ebonics---excerpted from my book. I used the Ebonics dictionary to translate it. Problem is the original idea was no good and this only makes it far worse.

Here's a sample: Much like muh man Shaq, I been greatly misunderstood throughout muh illustrious career. ‘N man am I ever weary a hearin’ all dis static ‘bout me havin’ gawn ’n “gassed my own people.” Sho’nuff, I been known to shower some uppity niggaz whiff a potent mixture a sarin ’n mustard gas---proud o it, too. Flew over Halabja myself in muh spacious ghetto bird, seen ’em droppin’ off like crackheads cross da barrio, did I. Musta been 5,000 o so sent off to they cold meat parties dat blessed day, countin’ two I done capped personally whiff muh nine. Many mo’ got sterilized, birf defects o had spontaneous bo-shuns in da ensuin’ years. But fo‘ real, dawgs---deeze he-uh won’t no furilla Iraqis, they be nappy-haired Kurdish outlanders...

Can't believe I actually checked for a Good Samaritan alternative blog site, for a look see... heh heh. *slap*

Never believe MG. Believe me.

by Anna at February 8, 2005 8:35 PM

hey I followed the link to the Nicole reference. Damn, talk about a negative reactions and one spanning 2 years! That's truly impressive. You really struck a nerve with that one and it seems you were just being playful. It was before my time though.

by Anna at February 8, 2005 8:40 PM

Hey, I'm still waiting for the delivery of my hot, intelligent, funny, nubile young man... I need bribes to post!

Actually, I haven't been updating anywhere lately. I suck. :P

by Jen at February 9, 2005 7:51 AM

How much per post?

by LOCKHEED at February 9, 2005 4:36 PM

You get to sleep with Jen for every post which generates more than ten comments... Commission based see. If you're extremely good it, Jen will get her man (bribe), and begin posting more frequently, which means BS will have two authors writing more often. Ta-da.

by Ex Crimson Guard NCO at February 9, 2005 4:49 PM

Brilliant. Pimpish, but brilliant.

by Anna at February 9, 2005 6:15 PM

It's delicious in its simplicity...

by Jen at February 10, 2005 7:06 AM

not counting your own comments I presume.

by Anna at February 10, 2005 7:48 AM

What Jen? You were bribed by the delivery of a hot, intelligent, funy, nubile young man? MG didn't bribe me with that... I feel like one of those times I bought something only to have it go on sale the next week WITH a free gift. Grar.

But a raise would work. Maybe doubling the pay?

And sometimes I think Anna is MG's alter-ego.

by snaggle at February 10, 2005 7:46 PM

OOH! I have an idea! Can we get them to do a casting couch video? :D

by snaggle at February 10, 2005 7:55 PM

I am my own alter-ego. Here's an idea: How's about every active author here post something on the same day. Monday works for me. I can whip something together by then.

by Anna at February 11, 2005 7:42 AM

Sounds like an idea. I've been working on a few interesting legal cases that should make a decent basis for a post... I'll try and have it up on Monday...

by Chuckwoolery at February 11, 2005 1:13 PM

Come on. Anyone else? I'm ready. MG can unveil anyone this post netted. We could hear from Ezy, Lajo, Chuck, Blank, Snaggle, Northstar, Jean, Jen....... Linz! A last hurrah.

by Anna at February 11, 2005 7:01 PM

Hmm, it does sound like a good idea. I'm always hoping to write the perfect post, which doesn't result in many posts at all! Maybe every other week.

by jean at February 11, 2005 10:50 PM

Damn. I forgot the main man. *kicks self in the nuts again*

by Anna at February 12, 2005 8:02 AM

Ah, but he's a given. So you are forgiven.
