next time is the best time we all know, but if there is no next time where to go?
by mg at 07:55 AM on December 08, 2004
It’s not that I don’t like the current Bad Samaritan design, it’s just that I’ve grown accustomed to its (type) face.
I’ve done full-on every-single-pixel-is-different design at least 7 times (that I can remember). I’ve done a number of 0.X revisions that is probably equal to or greater than that number. I’ve also probably done about 5 complete designs that were just waiting to be implemented, but for whatever reason (read: they sucked) I never got around to changing the live site.
Counting all the full designs and iterative steps that adds up to, if my math is correct, roughly the size of the national debt. Or 16 different designs, whichever is smaller. All that, over just four years. Now, I can’t remember exactly when this current design went up. It seems like forever ago, but is probably a lot closer to one and a half or two years. Fifteen designs in the first two years; only one design in the last two. I like those figures about as much as I like Rosie O’Donnel and Dom Deluise’s figures. Which is to say, I’d do ‘em, but only if I were really drunk.
Having a child is like having two full-time jobs. Add to that being back to work full-time, and it just doesn’t seem like there are enough hours in the day to get anything done, much less everything that I feel like I should be doing. I get home between 6:30 and 7, eat dinner, spend a couple hours with the kid to give the wife a break, and then I’m basically ready for bed. This doesn’t leave much time for writing snappy posts for Bad Sam, much less do a complete redesign.
Besides, my job is somewhat creative, so by the time I get home, I feel completely drained of any new or fresh ideas. This must be exactly like what the creators of Law & Order are feeling.
I guess, what I’m trying to get at is that I really want to redesign this site, implement all these grandiose ideas I have in my head, and generally revitalize my little digital baby back to those halcyon days back when I was unemployed and had nothing but time to devote to letting Bad Sam suckle at my creative teat. But, that isn’t likely to happen.
So, I’m putting out a call for anyone who might want to try their hand at a new design. Bueller? Bueller? Anybody?

Hello... it's me... I thought about us for a long long time... maybe I think too much but somethings wrong... (Only Anna will know this lyric)...
MIKEY, what's your new occupation? Other than Father?
Wow, it's actually sunny out today. I'm done the Euroshift for the day... made a solid $10,000 for firm last night, none of which I get.
As for a New Design, I know C++, but I don't know Webdesign. How about... when you log in... You have AUDIO of that old cartoon: On the Great Space Coaster... OR ... Suzanne the plans they made put an end to you...

I'm interested in giving it a try. I'm a little busy until after the holidays and my ski trip in January. I'm not that advanced in HTML or scripting. I have no idea how that "expand" "collapse" thing works or the "recent comments" menu works. I would have to design a shell and someone would have to help me fill it in.
Any ideas on what people want to see in a new BS site?

Also, are there any other group blog sites out there that people like? I could use the research. One of my favorites is: www.underconsideration.com/speakup/

I'll give it a go. Long time lurker, just started posting comments. I'm a part-time web developper, so the coding won't be the problem. Time, of course, might be.
It could be a contest where the winner gets the rights to BadSam should MG get a severe case of tennis elbow or something.

I just want to know where my graphics are MG. Ian emailed you. Whether or not I fork over my $8.95 fee or not depends on it. The survival of western civilization depends on it. And no I never heard of that lyric. Whatever. Never mind. Love that term "halycon days." You can say it and most people don't know what it means. Those who do can feel good about themselves for a second or tow.

MG- I think you should redesign the site to have a Porcelain Doll theme.

Yay, Speakup, Mr. Blank!
Hmm... I'd be tempted, except for the fact that I hate web design now. ;) Naw... maybe I'll whip up something and we can have a little contest or something? In case more than one wanna?

Make the current POSTS in a CIRCLE FORMAT: LIKE SPIN THE WHEEL. Divide into equidistant angles, with Post Title in each triangle...
Of course, if you dare do this, you'll have to owe me something... not sure what yet.

Why's there a / every time there's a '? How come sometimes I am typing and I manage to produce the sign for cent but I can never reproduce the feat?
