We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl

by anna at 11:46 AM on March 20, 2004

Our house went on the market last Saturday. It sold yesterday for more than what we thought was an obscene asking price. Yaay!

This is what is known as a seller's market. That means the seller's agent dictates all the terms. You want a home inspection to make sure everything works?! Forget that. Insurance on the aging appliances? Right. Here's what you're getting: nothing. If you don't like it I'll just sign another contract from this stack.

For a week, though, we endured a steady stream of potential buyers trooping through our home. Few of them spoke English but boy did they talk up a storm. I wished I had one of those translating machines they use at the UN. I didn't so we had no idea what kind of reaction we were getting. Bear in mind we've been working feverishly toward this goal for 18 months.

That's what is happening in my brick n mortar world. Here in the vapors, things have been hopping. Since MG's missive about shuttering the site, we've seen multiple creative posts by multiple authors. Comments have averaged 15. Lurkers have spoken up.

This is great. But I am afraid I may have jinxed it with an ill-fated weekend post about nothing. Then again, it worked for Seinfeld.

Yup we're the Jeffersons. We're movin' on up... Soon Ezy and I may be neighbors. Except now we're on the losing end of the stick. Gotta go look at houses we can't afford.

i told you about my "weezy" dream, didn't I?
ok, forget it.

nice job with the house. right before you leave for the very last time, i think a classy thing to do might be to take a wicked steamer, and neglect to flush.

you don't want to set the new family up with any false sense of hope.

Anna, I think this is great, too. Except for one thing-- I think we need some estrogen on the board. Where're Linz and Jen?

All this testosterone to myself? *grins* yum.

by yen at March 20, 2004 2:48 PM

But of course we will leave a steamy dump in the tank. Isn't that customary?

Linz is busy mooning at her Sean and maybe saving the 3rd world or something. Jen is probably posting on her Whore's Bodour (or however it's spelled) would be my guess.

You want some estrogen...

MEET THE QUEEN OF ESTROGEN ON THE NET. THIS WOMAN LEAVES ME SPEECHLESS.

Just check out the website, read a bit, trust me, you won't regret it. I never have and it's been bookmarked for months.

Yen! I've been in Mexico since Wednesday. I don't think I've ever had that much sex. Wow. But anyway. I'm back!

Anna, that rocks about your house. Must be a great feeling.

by Linz at March 22, 2004 9:36 AM

Thanx Linz but it's a great feeling in the sense that there is a moment of euphoria akin to taking a huge hit of freebase, followed by that inevitable letdown. Since we sold it 3 lovely houses have been snatched from our clutches by buyers who offer these clauses that say they'll beat any competing offer by $1,000. Bah!

My wife suggested that we buy an RV and travel around for a few months until this wild-eyed market calms down. Problem is, how do you post from there?

by anna at March 22, 2004 7:31 PM

(Here's my official contribution to the estrogen estrogen levels around here.) I think it's funny that my official title on this website is "lurker." I agree that the posts have been good recently.
Awesome about your house... I work in title insurance and houses are selling like hotcakes! (This is also why I haven't been around BadSam much--- things have been crazy at work between all of the spring fever in the real estate market and the low interest rates.)
Anyway, screw buying a house-- I think it'd be awesome to travel around in a RV. Almost as cool as travelling around in an old-school VW bus, but definitely more comfortable. So stick with the RV idea.

I would love to tool around in an RV for a year...

by Linz at March 23, 2004 11:28 AM

Anna, are you guys moving in the Sterling direction? Houses are outrageous in this area. Have you looked in Leesburg or Potomac Falls?

by Ezy at March 23, 2004 11:55 AM

Actually we've put in a contract on a 4 level behemoth a couple miles from here. Even though we offered the asking price, that's happened before and we've still gotten screwed. So here I sit on IV wine life support waiting for a call. Better get offline.

Linz a couple I know did that when they retired. They always act like it's great but I think they're getting tired of it after a couple years as vagabonds.

We got the house!

I am still puzzling over the bandwidth-chewing site Adam linked to. I urge anyone who didn't to check it out. But myself I haven't worked up the courage to click on "X-panded Version" just yet.

by anna at March 24, 2004 7:56 AM

Anna, I was as baffled as you. All I wanted were some more pictures and maybe a point, but what I got was a lot of weird text and no focus. I would do the RV thing for a year maybe, but after that if I'm retired & whatnot, I'd probably just like a little house right on some random beach so I could hear the waves for the rest of my life.

by Linz at March 24, 2004 9:40 AM

Congrats Anna! That's great news. Now comes the move :-(

by Ezy at March 24, 2004 10:08 AM

this probably doesn't compare but i think i know how you feel after i got a new bike that i placed a bid for on ebay. theat's pretty comparable right?

bicycle = four bedroom house

CONGRATS ANNA!!

by lajo at March 24, 2004 12:28 PM

Thanks all. Actually it's got 5 BRs but who's counting? As for the site, it is baffling but I keep going back and peering at it, like I will figure it out or something. And no I wasn't nearly as excited as I was when my wife located an original Nintendo with all the games on eBay.

by anna at March 24, 2004 6:15 PM

Congratulations Anna! Even if the news doesn't compare to the Nintendo...
