Every day in the news I see violence, war and natural disasters. I’ve gotten used to it and it rarely effects me, but today I came across something that gives me chills. It repulses me and pollutes my mind all day long because I can’t fathom it. I can understand human nature when it comes to violence and war. I know that natural disasters happen and I accept it. This article is something I just can’t wrap my brain around.
I can, in a remote way, understand cannibalism out of necessity, but desiring to be eaten …

I'd already heard this story, and couldn't fathom it either. Which is why I'm choosing to hijack this post (it was bound to do eventually anyway), by asking that we fill the comments with as many euphemisms for cunnilingus and/or fellatio as we possibly can.

I imagine that it's a half-suicidal, half-S&M urge that drives these people. It is truly odd, isn't it? Did you know that there is a category of furries (people who get off on dressing like animals) who further get off on dressing like an animal and thinking about being or pretending to be eaten by another person dressed up as an animal? Bleh, now I want to rinse my keyboard. That's what I get for reading Somethingawful.com. But then again, if you think about it, these are the desires of a few hundred people out of a planet of 6 billion. If even enough monkeys given enough time could write Hamlet, etc.

Is it weird that I'm more bothered by the prevalence of eating disorder support sites, where anorexics & bulemics share clever ways to keep being anorexic & bulemic?

I agree Linz, there is something about those Web sites that is worse. Maybe because I've roomed with anorexics twice, or that their affliction seems so much less voluntary. The mind-set and problems that lead to anorexia (in my experience) are like this Gordian knot that you can't really untie. With the furries and the cannibal people, it seems like their energies just need to be redirected to a few social mixers and more sunlight, or something. Not to diminish their psychological dysfunctions, of course.

What I don't get is how you derive any pleasure from dying thinking someone is going to make some chili out of you. I mean, who knows if the sicko will go through with it. Hell, they might just get off on the killing aspect and chuck your dismembered body in an incenerator. You'd never know the difference unless they just took, say, an arm, leg, a sliver of your ass and ate it in front of you while you were still conscious. That would have to hurt like a bitch though.
Anna, there's always a draw to devient behavior by most "normal" people. Blood sells.
