You the jury

by anna at 09:04 PM on August 06, 2003

You're kicking yourself for voting, because now you've been selected to serve on a jury in a trial that's liable to drag on longer than O.J.'s. You're white just like all your jury-mates in a county that is 99% white. You twelve have beeen choesn to hear testimony in the case that has riveted the nation.

Here's what months of testimony reveal: A world-famous black athlete summons room service. A 19 year old white coed responds, bringing his cheese omelet and champagne. He urges her to stick around, saying that a magnum of champagne is best enjoyed with others. One thing leads to another and soon enough she is sucking his dick.

She's wondering what her friends might think when they hear about her sucking off a world-famous athlete. These thoughts dissipate when he grabs her noggin and pulls it off of his throbbing member (which she testifies is huge, reinfrocing a racial stereotype you've never voiced but do believe.)

Next thing you knows he's got her positioned doggie-stye and is going for the back door. Her protests go unheeded and the dirty deed winds up being consummated. She recoils in horror and leaves. Anal is something she normally reserves for special occasions with long-term boyfriends, a rare treat.

The question thus becomes: Does a blowjob constitute implicit consent for anal, vaginal or for that matter, tit or ear action?

Or is it like Anticoch College's infamou policy,. which requires men to otain express consent for their progression to each base. I swear there are lawyers plying their trade on the college's lovers' lanes.

Here's hoping we don't wind up with a hung jury.

"Her protests go unheeded..."

I think this answers the question. Protests = no = stop what you're attempting to do right now.

she probably just meant to give him aural.

by lajoie at August 6, 2003 10:50 PM

“Protests = no = stop what you're attempting to do right now.” That equation is hardly adequate. Protests do not ALWAYS mean “no”. Protests can mean, “don’t do that, do this” and “stop, my back hurts. Change positions”. Half-assed crap like, “I should go home” or “We should stop”, don’t cut it. The only thing that means no is “NO”. Say “no”.

by MrBlank at August 7, 2003 9:24 AM

I don't think people would dispute you Blank. But I wager if someone is charging rape then they were pretty fucking clear in their protests!

Anna, how do you think a woman who has been raped would enjoy reading your post? Try those shoes on for a second and let me know what your thoughts are.

by Linz at August 7, 2003 10:00 AM

everyone sympathizes with rape. some much more than others. women, typically more than men. so, our hearts go out to the girl should that have been the case. it's not only possible, its likely that a world famous athlete would take advantge of the situation. of his situation. this part's indisputable, because, at the very least he used his status to cheat on his wife, and sleep with the hotel staff. and before you say, 'ohhh he could have done that based on his merits of charm or good looks, or raging cock size alone', consider this....how many of us have had filthy fantasies about the help staff at a hotel or motel (admittedly or not) and how many have even had the chance to act on it? right, he got some because he's famous. now, did he rape her? maybe. i really hope not, and not for his sake. i couldn't give a shit about him if that's what he did. the problem people seem to be having with this is the 'smell smoke, there's fire' adage. there's a lot of evidence pointing against a girl, whose half-witted attempts at suicide have been called cries for attenttion. this could be her meal ticket out of little town, colorado, population nobody. hell she might just be a big nuggets fan, and tired of kobe kicking her team to the curb five times a season. who knows? really though, we should try to be sensitive to a girl who might have been violated in the most sacred way possible, by a maniacal, and surely philandering athlete. or we should see this as another attempt at someone trying to get famous after sucking dick. they're both pretty common.

by lajoie at August 7, 2003 10:28 AM

I believe a protest at any point should stop the action. With that said, I also don't think once the deed is done that anyone should be able to change their minds, about wanting to do it, and be able to ruin someone's life. If you consented and went through with the act then you live with it. I also don't believe "I was drunk and didn't know what I was doing" is an excuse. Sorry. If you made the decision to get that drunk and ended up sleeping with someone you didn't mean to then you made a bad decision. It was your decision though. Take responsibility for your actions.

in answer to the question posed....blowjob means blowjob, and sex means sex. neither one implies or gaurantees the other. i'm sure many frustrated head receiving teenagers, and frustrated non-head receiving married men could attest.
anna, did it really lead to anal?

by lajoie at August 7, 2003 11:54 AM

It irritates me that many seem to think it is MORE LIKELY she is lying in a sick attempt to better her life. Or that she is trying to purge her responsibility for drunken actions; that is such classic jargon of lawyers that get rape charges dropped. (Eviltom, how was my semicolon use?)

If you compare the number of times guilty rapists get off scot free vs. how many times falsely accused get convicted... something tells me the former far outweigh the latter, even in our "enlightened" times.

You know what it is? Maybe all you men commenting find it hard to fathom a man doing that to a woman. As a woman, I find it hard to fathom a woman being so messed up that she would ruin someone's life to further who own. We can't relate to either prospect, really. But my heart goes first to the woman. Can't help it.

by Linz at August 7, 2003 12:29 PM

Linz, I honestly don't know if he is guilty or not. I didn't think he'd cheat on his wife but he did so there is no telling what else he's capable of. The only points I have been trying to make is that I believe it is very unfair to protect one party's privacy and not both. The other point is that alcohol or changing your mind after the fact is in no way an excuse or grounds for accusing someone of a heinous crime. I don't know if any of these apply to Kobe Bryant's accuser. I am talking generally, across the board.

by Ezy at August 7, 2003 1:06 PM

linz, your point is an interesting one. there's a disconnect going on here from the boys and girls alike. on the male side there is often the inability step into the rapists shoes, because its just so sickening. for most men, all the reasons they love women are all the reasons they'd never think about doing that kind of thing. for most women, it's just too hard to understand a girl using her leverage to gain from this kind of accusation. but these people do exist. it's about power. men have been using it for ages to unfairly take advantage of women sexually, and only recently, women have been able to take it right back because equality was finally realized, not just legalized. the sad part is that once the act has occurred, or the accusation has been made, regardless of what the outcome is for right or wrong, both peole are irreparably harmed. but i usually have to go with the girl first, because i just know too many girls who've been abused. and i'm shocked everytime i find out. fucking shocked.

by lajoie at August 7, 2003 1:21 PM

Ez, I know you respect women with a capital R-E-S-P-E-C-T, so the details aren't as important. And I'm with ya on the privacy. I hate the way we simultaneously deify and exploit celebrities, strip-mining them for our own sick fascination.

Lajoie, with you on that. I am devastated all over again every time I learn of another girlfriend who's been raped. You got my point; nice people just can't relate to either possibility. Maybe that's why we're so interested.

by Linz at August 7, 2003 1:28 PM

true dat. buuuut something does smell just a little bit fishy here. maybe its the sheets...

by lajoie at August 7, 2003 1:46 PM

I think kobe should sue george michael... I want your sex...

by lockheed at August 7, 2003 2:14 PM

I grew up with two older sisters and my Mom in the house. I love and respect those women to my death so I tend to side with women on a lot of things. Your point is also right on the mark. I find it deplorable that any man could do this to a woman and find it hard to relate. Fucking cowards.

On another note, I got the rare pleasure of avenging a friend of mine, in high school, who had been raped. She was too scared to tell anyone because she felt they would think it was her fault. She was somewhat of a wild girl, with a bit of a reputation, but had a good heart and was brutally honest. This guy had been trying to get with her for a year or so and caught her away from the crowd one night, at a field party. He raped her and told her he'd hurt her if she told anyone. She told me a couple of weeks later and I waited for the guy to get off work one night and caught him from behind with an axe handle. I beat his ass good and left him lying there. I told him if he ever even talked to her again I'd come back and finish the job. He never went to the cops or anything. I guess he was afraid of what might get out if he opened that Pandora's box. He never even looked at her again though. Fucker.

by Ezy at August 7, 2003 2:21 PM

Linz I did consider your point prior to posting but ultimately decided the odds of that were slim. Then I hear y'all talk about all your friends who've been raped and now I feel like such a heel. Who knew it was that common?

As for the progression from oral to anal (that's the correct order in my view, not the other way around) that's just something I heard on talk radio. They were quoting a magazine article. But how could anyone else possibly know?

And I agree about hotel employees. No one aside from strippers gets ogled and/or hit on more. People just associate hotels and illicit sex.

Great comments, guys.

by anna at August 7, 2003 5:26 PM

You shouldn't feel like a heel, Anna, but it is a very common occurrence. I have four friends that I know have been raped. Who knows, there may be more that are too ashamed to talk about it. It's much too common these days for my liking. I think we should make the laws tougher. If a male is convicted of rape it should mean castration. Bet that'll make you think before you rape someone.

by Ezy at August 8, 2003 10:41 AM

"frustrated non head receiving married men could attest." Er, what's up with that? Why does that seem to occur over time? Gals? Do we start taking it for granted?

And Ezy for a while "chemical castration" of sex offenders (mostly hardcore pedophiles) was in vogue.

by anna at August 8, 2003 6:46 PM

best i can tell, 'head' is a luxury item, and it's off the menu once comfortability is reached. or once the ring is secured. i know this sounds cynical, and that linz might have something quite the contrary to say, but its true. it's all part of the lure, and who need a lure once the fish is in hand? you tear the hook out and eat your catch. some truly love doing it, and some truly love reciprocating, but many if not most merely tolerate it as a necessary means, and eye the finish line from afar.
