and I want to be with you, be with you night and day

New design is up today, nearly one year exactly from when I’d put up the former design. All in all, I think this makes the 7th major design revision (with countless X.X releases). I have to say I like this one best of all, or maybe that’s just because it’s still all shiny and new.
At any rate, I’m in the process of finishing it all up, and propagating it out to all the different templates. I was going to do it all at once, but thought I’d throw it up here to get a little early feedback.
So, what do you all think?

It looks like a pair of Adidas jogging pants.
by Adam at March 3, 2003 3:31 PM
Oh my god, that was totally the look I was going for!
by mg at March 3, 2003 3:37 PM
Seems sharper, more in focus. I like it. I like change, it makes things seem shinnier. Good Job. Hey, I thought I saw something on the mock up, like recent comments. I like that idea. Are you going to incorporate that?
by sydney at March 3, 2003 4:03 PM
Would look better on a girl. Girls wearing adidas sweatpants raise their level of hotness. Looks like GI Joe cartoon. I like it though. Better for the eyes. At least it's not all APPLE IIe green monitor. Bush's approval rating went up from 50% to 50.00000000000000000000000000000001 because they supposedly caught a mastermind of Al Quaeda, I just don't buy the timing of it. And the guy makes Richard Reid(shoebomber) look like Val Kilmer.

Dude, the new design kicks ass. The new Comments feature kicks ass. It even works on Mac. WooO! Good job!
by Eviltom at March 3, 2003 4:15 PM
Very pleasing to the eye MG. Functional too. You rock!
by Ezy at March 3, 2003 4:32 PM
Nice. I'm a little shocked, but in a rollercoaster way not a roadkill way.
by Linz at March 3, 2003 4:46 PM
Nice! And it doesn't make my Mac browser go apeshit.
No clutter and *gasp* the recent comments thingy is making ME go apeshit!
by MrBlank at March 3, 2003 4:49 PM
It works okay in Mac? How is that possible? The next thing your going to say is that it doesn't make Opera gag either and the tooth fairy left that stain on my sheets last night.
by mg at March 3, 2003 5:25 PM
i especially like the new icons. nothing says comments like !!!
by überchick at March 3, 2003 5:46 PM
dig it. you definitely fixed a lot of the little bugs, and it looks pretty schnazzy to boot! (note that i'm NOT in the uk, so i'm not talking about puking or the trunk of a car...)
by JC at March 3, 2003 5:50 PM
Much cleaner and considerably easier on the eyes since it's less cluttered up. Nice work.
by Muad'Dib at March 3, 2003 6:36 PM
How does the site know how many users are online?
by Lucy at March 3, 2003 8:55 PM
It's a little PHP script. It doesn't actually track how many people are looking at a page at any moment, rather, the number of unqie IP addresses that have accessed a page in the last X minutes, I think I've got it set to count anyone who's visited in the last 15 minutes as being currently online. According to Site Meter, the average visit length is only 3 minutes, so I should probably have that be the limiter, but it wouldn't look nearly as impressive that way.
by mg at March 3, 2003 9:06 PM
Your lenghth is only 3 minutes? Ha!
by Eviltom at March 3, 2003 9:11 PM
What Macs are you guys using? BS has always looked fine on my iBook (OS 10.1.5). BS:TNG didn't work quite right, but it was still functional.
by jean at March 4, 2003 1:33 AM
Well done, mg. It's original (at least to me) and functional.
by zuchris at March 4, 2003 2:14 AM
It does look sharp, I like just about all of it... the only thing that strikes me as not right is the color of the "bad samaritan" logo at the top. I think piss yellow is a little out of place, other than that, kudos.
by Dmoney at March 4, 2003 3:03 AM
Hey mister lazy ass, are you going to post Anna's non-hidden face picture or what? I wonder what she looks like under there. Hmmm...
by Eviltom at March 4, 2003 11:19 AM
HEY! The comments feature strippes out image links?! Fooey! I want to include this pic for y'all.
by Eviltom at March 4, 2003 11:21 AM
On my Mac at work I use IE 5.2. The old design would make the browser choke and gag especially if I tried to resize the window. Also, the text was always missaligned. It was fine in Netscape 7. This new design is easier on the browser and pops up faster, even if the recent comments thing is slow - at least it works! Any site that looks 100% right on a Mac and a PC is quite a coding achievement. MG is a pro!
by MrBlank at March 4, 2003 12:52 PM
Tolerable, but "Can I get the icon in cornflower blue?"
by Joseph at March 4, 2003 1:32 PM
Eviltom!
You stole my guy!
I sent that guy's pic to friends at work yesterday & told them I found a new boyfriend.
by Linz at March 4, 2003 2:46 PM
Is it just me or does the guy in that picture look an aweful lot like Ron Jeremy?
by at March 4, 2003 2:56 PM
That last comment was me by the way... it didn't remember my info.
by Dmoney at March 4, 2003 2:57 PM
Dmoney, why would you want to admit that to having posted the Ron Jeremy comment?!
by Eviltom at March 4, 2003 4:51 PM
I'd actually heard the Ron Jeremy comparison somewhere else. Along with John Belushi, Nick Nolte (similarly bad arrest photo), Artie Lang, and a dozen others. Basically, every fat guy with messy hair.
by mg at March 4, 2003 5:07 PM
Eviltom, I know you and MG are pals in real life. It's not as simple as it sounds. You'll love it whenever we work it out.
by Anna at March 4, 2003 10:00 PM
Anna, what did I say? I'm confused? Was I critical about something at some point? Oh, but in any case... just for the record, it IS as simple as it sounds. At least it is for me? You know why? Because I am smarter than everyone else. Yeah, go me!
by Eviltom at March 4, 2003 11:43 PM
hmmm...i have noticed that my info's not being remembered. thought it was just my browser settings. but if other people are having the same problem, maybe it's a code issue?
thought of a new section for the site: "I'll show you mine if you show me yours." it could be a repository for non-work appropriate authors and readers' filthy bits. because really, i think the bad sam community would be that much closer if we didn't have to constantly imagine linz and anna and uberchick naked...
by JC at March 5, 2003 11:05 AM
in short.
woo hoo for the new!
by capitalj at March 5, 2003 2:09 PM
JC, I can't even imagine myself naked.
by Anna at March 5, 2003 8:44 PM
If sitemeter says the average visit is 3 minutes, your assumption of 15 probably isn't too far off. Sitemeter seems to count all visits that look only at the entry page as 0 seconds. Minutes are only counted when they look at multiple pages and it can count the time between them. But it's hardly unreasonable to assume that it takes five minutes or more to read the front page, even if only a few click through to another page.
by Muad'Dib at March 6, 2003 5:02 PM
Not sure if anyone is going to see this, but the comments aren't remembering my info, either.
by jean at March 8, 2003 1:28 AM
ah ha...so now we know why anna can't imagine seeing "herself" naked! even so, i still think "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" is a good idea. what brings people closer together than nakedness? why do granola eating tree huggers get "closer to nature" by baring it all in the wild? why are we told to imagine the audience in their underwear or butt-nekkid to ease our nervousness when public speaking? when do i feel more free than when streaking down a public golf course when the moon is full? (okay, so i'd had a bit much to drink, but it was damn fun, even if making sand trap angels wasn't such a good idea...)
this needs to happen, people! and i'm not even talking about full disclosure here...just a taste. something tantalizing. mg's already stepped up to the plate, and i'd be more than happy to take a swing.
let's get this ball rollin'!
by JC at March 13, 2003 12:35 AM
